First Label Set Finished

Dec 16, 2020

By now the first set of our labels have been transcribed. Thank you very much for your support and engagement in this project!
We will soon upload new sets.

What are the next steps for the transcribed labels?

We export the transcriptions from Zooniverse and and make a quick quality check. Then the data is processed, e.g. we look at the label in case of ambiguities and ask our scientists how, for example, abbreviations are correctly resolved. The data is then sorted according to characteristics, such as taxonomic name, collector, location, etc. This information will then be integrated into our collection database, where they will simplify or even enable scientists to search for specific specimen in the future. Furthermore the information from the transcibed labels may also lead to new insights:
By comparing the places where the specimen were found in the past with the places where they occur today, we can better understand how biodiversity has changed in different regions over the last decades and centuries.
