In Arkansas, we are using natural history collections in a variety of ways in education. At the K-12 level, we have developed lesson plans for teachers to use Notes from Nature in their classrooms to address educational frameworks about biodiversity, taxonomy, and the nature of science. At the university and postgraduate level, natural history reference collections are used in a wide variety of organismal coursework, and research collections are made and used by graduate students in their research endeavors and education. Baseline taxonomic knowledge is important for all kinds of organismal surveys required in habitat assessment.
