How can I help?
By helping us digitise the dates on the data set, you will be greatly helping in our effort to make these records accessible to scientists everywhere. Each card that you help digitise represents over 100 years of the life history of a species and more potential points of data for further research on our changing ecosystem.
Where will the information go?
The data that is digitised will be entered in the Darwin Core Database for further studies on biodiversity. We also hope to use paired weather data from the Fairbanks Museum to track changes in plant phenology with the changing climate.
Where is the data from?
It is collected by volunteers for the Fairbanks Museum within a 50-mile radius of St. Johnsbury in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. The data has been collected over the past 200 years.
What do I do if I cannot read the handwriting on the card?
Some of the handwriting on the files might be challenging to read but try your best to accurately transcribe the name of the species and the bloom date! By narrowing down the options and making a guess, you are still providing us with enough information to figure out which species it is.
If I make a mistake, can I return to the card to correct it?
No, you cannot return to a card or subject set to correct a mistake, but do not worry about it! Every species set is seen by multiple volunteers so any mistakes or misidentifications will eventually be outweighed by a larger number of correct ones.
Can I see how many species I have classified?
Yes! Sign in to Zooniverse and click on your user name in the upper right hand corner and select "My Profile". Select the tab “Your Stats”. This will show you all of the classifications that you have done for any Zooniverse projects that you have participated in.
How can I discuss a data card or the project with others?
When you have finished classifying the species cards, you can click the “Done and Talk” button. This will direct you to a Talk page where you can can add hashtags to a species card, add it to your collection, "favorite" the card set, or ask a question about it.
