Thank you for all of your help in completing this project! Zooniverse volunteers like you have completed transcribing all of the letters in the collection.
Should I correct spelling or grammar mistakes?
Please make sure to transcribe lines exactly as you see them, regardless of any errors you might find. Feel free to ask a question or comment on something on the Talk page for a letter.
What if I can't read a specific word?
If you can't tell exactly what a word or phrase is, give your best guess and use the "unclear" mark on the transcription tool. Highlight the word or phrase and click "unclear" to assign that tag to the word or phrase. The research team will see this when they go through volunteer classifications.
Should I transcribe typed text on the page?
Often times, there will be printed letterhead or other elements on the pages. We are only interested in the handwritten text on the pages.
What if I realize I got something wrong afterwards?
Don't worry! We have multiple people transcribing each letter so one mistake won't ruin the project.
Do I have to transcribe the whole page?
At this time, yes, since we don't have a mechanism of processing partial letter transcriptions. If a letter seems too long for you to transcribe, refresh the page to get a new letter.
What happens after I transcribe the letter?
After we receive all of the transcriptions for each letter, we will go through and compare them line-by-line, assigning a final version for each letter. Then, these transcriptions as well as other metadata for each letter will go into the publicly-accessible digital database we're building for the project.
Can I correct a mistake I made?
You can correct a mistake while you're still transcribing. Click on the line again and you can change your transcription. Once you've submitted your transcription, however, you won't be able to go back and change anything. Don't worry if you made a mistake, multiple people will transcribe the same letter as you.
Am I able to choose what letter I classify?
For quality assurance purposes, letters are shown at random to volunteers.
I wanted to talk about something on a letter I transcribed, but forgot to click "Done and Talk." Is there a way to go back to it?
There is if you are logged in with your Zooniverse account. You can click on "Recents" along the top of the site and see the images you have recently classified. (For some, this might show up under the "Explore" menu). Click on the image and you should be able to then start or continue a discussion about that letter.
