SOLUTION HOLES - FISH ID: Help Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) researchers identify Caribbean marine species that make up an integral part of the Florida Keys Marine Ecosystem.
WESTERN DRY ROCKS - FISH ID: Help marine biologists identify important reef fish species in the Florida Keys. Specifically, looking for evidence of large fish schools and spawning behavior.
Currently, we offer a Beginner and Intermediate level of difficulty for both the Solution Hole and Western Dry Rocks workflows, with plans of releasing an Advanced difficulty soon. Please select one of the workflows below that sound most appealing and applicable to you! We sincerely appreciate your help!

Help us explore life beneath the water’s surface in the Florida Keys!
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) invites you to join us in documenting fish, invertebrates, and their interactions with marine habitats in the Florida Keys. Your participation will support critical research that helps protect and conserve the unique ecosystems.
FWRI is home to a dedicated team of scientists committed to understanding and managing Florida’s fish and wildlife resources. Our South Florida Regional Laboratory, based in the heart of the Florida Keys, specializes in marine science and innovative research techniques to study these resources.
Our lab has developed long-term underwater video camera systems designed to reveal the hidden dynamics of marine life. These custom-made systems are deployed in both saltwater and freshwater environments across the state, offering insight into everything from fish spawning behaviors to understanding the dynamics of invertebrate behavior.
Marine Lens: Florida Keys is a community project that invites you to help analyze video footage collected by our underwater cameras. By identifying species and behaviors, you’ll be contributing directly to this important research and help us better understand and protect these vital ecosystems.
