FAQ

How can I get in contact with you?

You are welcome to use the talk boards to get in touch with us.

Why don't you use Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to transcribe the maps?

The data from linguistic atlases cannot yet be transcribed using OCR software since the assignment of number and text on the atlas maps cannot be automated so far.

Can I go back and edit my markings and transcriptions if I have made a mistake?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to correct your markings and transcriptions in case you have made a mistake. After you have pressed "Done" you will not be able to return to your previous markings and transcriptions. But don't worry about this since there will probably be a number of people marking and/or transcribing the same words as you.

How do I know which words on the map have been transcribed before by someone else?

In the main task we only present users with the numbers that we do not have yet. And each user can decide for himself when he wants to finish the task. Any points that are still open on a map are then shown to the next user. In the optional transcription task, the users are then shown the rectangles with the linguistic attestations that have been created in the main task. As soon as a word has been transcribed identically by two different users, it is no longer displayed here. The double transcription is used to validate the data.

Where do numbers with just symbols go?

If there is a number with "x" superscript next to it this means that the attestation that corresponds to this number stands on the side of the map.
