FAQ

Do I need experience with animal behavior to participate in this study?
Not at all! If you can watch a video and take notes, you can help us with this research!

How much time do I need to commit to this study?
As much as you'd like! Whether you contribute three hours or 30, every observation brings us closer to understanding the bonds formed by the rescued cows at Farm Sanctuary.

Can volunteers log hours for their participation in this project?
Yes, you can! After signing in to zooniverse.org, click ‘More Stats’. Then click on ‘Generate Volunteer Certificate’ (the button to the bottom-right of your stats bar chart). Use the drop-down options on the upper-right of the stats bar chart to filter to a specific time period and/or project.

What if I am unsure if a behavior occurred?
If you are over 80% certain that a behavior of interest has occurred, please flag it accordingly and select your level of certainty (Clear or Ambiguous). If you are less than 80% certain that a behavior of interest has occurred, please do not flag it. Make sure to utilize the Behavior Guide and Behavior Library resources in the Field Guide to assist you with identifying behaviors of interest.

What if I am unsure who is involved in the interaction?
That's okay! Please take your best guess and flag your level of certainty (Clear or Ambiguous). Make sure to utilize the Identification Guide resource in the Field Guide to assist you with individual identifications.

Can I visit the cows participating in this study?
Yes! The cows in this study live in the Main Herd at Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, NY. Tours are available from April through October. Advance registration is required. Live closer to the West Coast? Tours are available year-round at our Acton, California location!
