Finished! Looks like this project is out of data at the moment!
THANK YOU! Current batch of images have been transcribed.
The Oxford Radcliffe Observatory is the longest continuously running weather station in the UK, with daily observations back to 1814. However, the barometer observations of atmospheric pressure have never been digitised. Their 'rescue' will fill in a gap in our understanding of weather and climate variations. In particular we will examine extreme weather events of the past to better understand the risks from such events if they were to occur today.
As an example, in 1840 there are just 2 locations around the British & Irish Isles with available pressure observations. Many more are available in logbooks such as those from Oxford. We aim to fill these gaps over the UK & Ireland.
Here we are focussing on two particular formats of logbook from Oxford which cover 1828 to 1876. Future projects will explore the earlier and later parts of the record.
