About Transcribe Harper

Help us transcribe the records of Frances E. W. Harper and preserve this ground-breaking activist and author’s legacy! By joining our transcribe-a-thon, you will make Harper’s letters, essays, newspaper pieces, and published writing fully searchable and freely available worldwide. Central to our collection is A Brighter Coming Day, an edited volume of Harper’s writings created by Dr. Frances Smith Foster that has been out of print. This transcription project will make the various archival materials of the “Two Frances” fully searchable and freely accessible online!

Join hundreds of others in celebrating Harper in the 200th anniversary of her birth. This event is perfect for individuals with an hour or two to spare, for high school and college classrooms, community and church groups. If you want to know more about Black history, early women’s writing and activism, and you’re committed to making sure we don’t erase important figures of the past, you’ll want to join these efforts!
