Currently we do not have a software that detects a meteor with 100% reliability. Thanks to the classifications, we are going to build a dataset of meteors with which to train algorithms that are able to detect them automatically.

About Flashes of the Universe

Knowing the solar system is of great importance for human beings since it is the planet we live on, so we need to know what it is surrounded by, how it was formed and what characteristics it has. One of the ways to study it is through the meteors that enter the atmosphere. Some are sporadic and others occur at certain times of the year, produced by a comet and generating a meteor shower. Until a few years ago, humans were trusted to record visual observations. Today, more sophisticated tools are available. We have a network of all-sky cameras that record a large number of videos 365 days a year. We don't have enough astronomers to do the task of classifying the videos, nor do we have software that does it automatically without error. Humans are better at this task for now. Help us to find them in the images, it is also your Solar System!
