Infection Inspection

Help us identify antibiotic-resistant bacteria so we can develop faster tests for detecting infections!

We have taken images of bacteria with a microscope. We added markers so that parts of each cell light up under the microscope. We want to you tell us which ones look like they can survive treatment with the antibiotic (called antibiotic resistant), and which ones cannot (called sensitive).

Infection Inspection

About Infection Inspection

Our team is studying bacteria treated with antibiotics to learn what antibiotic-sensitive and antibiotic-resistant bacteria look like under a microscope. We will use what we learn to create a rapid test that could be used by healthcare professionals to find out what bacteria is causing a patient's infection and which antibiotics could be used to treat them. Currently these tests take a day or more to complete, but we believe our tests will be much faster. Rapid tests for antibiotic sensitivity and resistance will only become more important as antibiotic-resistant bacteria are an increasing threat to global health.

Please see our research page for more information about our project and about antibiotic resistance.

Our team includes microbiologists, medical doctors, biophysicists, and machine learning experts. We need your help to learn what antibiotic-resistant bacteria look like under our microscopes. The images you classify will help us develop our tests and help patients as quickly as possible.
