First Milestone Reached in under a week: 25K Annotations! Thank you!!
1. How can I learn more before I start classifying?
Check out our tutorial! When you first click on the workflow, a tutorial will display on the screen. You can click through this before starting. You can always refer back to the tutorial by clicking on the Tutorial tab to the right of the Task tab within the workflow.
2. Where do the images come from?
Sources include: C20, WORLDLIT, CONLIT, and FANFIC (excluding Mature content). For all of our data we are careful only to select a few random sentences per book or story that reasonably falls under the concept of fair use for research purposes. We do not include any personal identifying information.
3. Can I see how many images I have classified?
Yes, you can!
4. How can I ask a question that is not in this FAQ?
You can ask questions on the project's Talk page in the General forum. "Ask questions about specific passages" is for questions about specific passages. "Ask the researchers questions about the project" is for bigger questions related to the research project.
5. What's the data going to be used for?
We get this question a lot! This project has two main goals: a) understanding how sensory language interacts with other literary features and b) support AI research for interpretability and model validation around questions of sensory activation in stories. Your work will help us study this key aspect of human storytelling at much larger scale than ever before.
6. Where will the data go?
The data will be placed in the following repository dedicated to this project. It will be publicly available once we have cleaned and processed it. This takes a long time given our small team, but we hope for a 6-12 month turnaround for each project.
