We would like to thank all citizen scientists who contributed to this project on the Zooniverse platform. The Whale Chat project continues on our platform (cetalingua.com). Please check it out if you are interested.

The Team

Natalija Lace is a Principal investigator for Cetalingua Project. Natalija received her PhD from the University of Southern Mississippi and her main interests include form and function of marine mammal acoustic communication. You can read more about Natalija's research here.

Data Collection Sites

We are starting this project with data from publicly available depositories. At first we will focus on Atlantic region that includes breeding grounds in the Caribbean, travelling through areas like Bermuda, and feeding grounds up North. The recordings will be from different locations and different years and the quality will also differ greatly based on recording systems used.

Cetalingua Project is focused on decoding marine mammal communication with citizen science and deep learning. It seeks to involve citizen scientists in marine mammal bioacoustics and behavioral research and uses a novel approach by providing practical and focused training for citizen scientists along with online classes, quizzes, and new research updates.
