Professor David Gleeson, Department of Humanities, Northumbria University

David Gleeson is a Professor in the Department of Humanities at Northumbria University and the Principal Investigator for the Civil War Bluejackets Project. His areas of expertise include the immigrant experience in the 19th century United States, and race, ethnicity and class during the antebellum and Civil War eras.


Dr Morgan Harvey, Information School, University of Sheffield

Morgan is a Senior Lecturer in Data Science and Information Retrieval at the Information School of the University of Sheffield. His primary research focusses on the fields of information retrieval, information behaviour and recommender systems.


Professor Frank Hopfgartner, Information School, University of Koblenz-Landau

Frank Hopfgartner is Professor for Data Science at the University of Koblenz-Landau in Germany. His main research interest is in the intersection of intelligent information access and data analytics with an emphasis on the analysis and exploitation of personal data and user-generated content. He is interested in understanding and modelling how data-driven systems shape and influence people and society.


Elina Unruh, University of Koblenz-Landau

Elina is a Research Assistant at the Institute for Webscience and Technologies of the University of Koblenz in Germany. Her background is theoretical computer science, computational visualistics, e-learning and usabilty.


Dr Adam Funk, Information School, University of Sheffield

Adam is a post-doctoral Research Associate at the Information School of the University of Sheffield. His background is in the areas of Natural Language Processing and Computational Linguistics, in which he holds a PhD from the University of Manchester.


Dr Damian Shiels, Department of Humanities, Northumbria University

Damian Shiels is a Research Fellow at Northumbria University. His research focuses on the impact of conflict on society and the experience of 19th century immigrants during the period of the American Civil War, he also specialises in public outreach and engagement.


Associate Professor Wayne Hsieh, History Department, United States Naval Academy

Wayne Hsieh is an Associate Professor at the United States Naval Academy. He focuses his research on 19th century U.S. military history and the American Civil War.
