The San Diego Natural History Museum
Nearly 150 years ago, a group of naturalists got together to study and share their love of the unique flora and fauna of our special bioregion. We still gather every day to do just that. Learn more at SDNAT.org.
Our Mission
To interpret the natural world through research, education and exhibits; to promote understanding of the evolution and diversity of southern California and the peninsula of Baja California; and to inspire in all a respect for nature and the environment.
Project Goals
Explore our digital treasure trove of 2,000+ historic glass photographs capturing the natural history of San Diego, Imperial Counties, and Baja California from the late 1800s to early 1900s. Marvel at the earliest images of flora, fauna, San Diego’s evolution, and Balboa Park, all captured by our founding community scientists. Join us in honoring this legacy through community science — help tag these photographs and unveil the stories within!
