The Team

Mark Cartwright

Mark Cartwright is a postdoctoral researcher at NYU's Music and Audio Research Laboratory. His research lies at the intersection of human-computer interaction, audio signal processing, and machine learning. He completed his PhD in computer science at Northwestern University as a member of the Interactive Audio Lab, where his research focused on creating new interfaces and tools for music production that support creativity by rethinking the traditional interaction paradigms. As a member of the SONYC project, he researches methods for large-scale annotation of audio.

Ana Elisa Mendez Mendez

Ana Elisa is a PhD student in Music Technology at New York University's Music and Audio Research Laboratory, currently working on the SONYC project.

Oded Nov

Oded Nov is an associate professor of technology management at New York University. He received his PhD from Cambridge University. His research focuses on social computing, and on human-computer interaction and decision making.

Ayanna Seals

Ayanna is a PhD student and research assistant at New York University, Department of Technology Management and Innovations. Ayanna is passionate about creating solutions within the field of civic technology, focusing on community development and poverty alleviation.

Graham Dove

Graham Dove is a postdoctoral design researcher at NYU, currently working on SONYC (Sounds of New York). He gained his PhD in Human-Computer Interaction Design from the Centre for Creativity in Professional Practice at City University London. Prior to working at NYU, Graham spent two years working as a postdoc in the Center for Participatory IT at Aarhus University in Denmark. He studies creativity in collaborative interaction design and service design processes, exploring methods for using visualized data as a source of inspiration for ideation and human creativity as tool for contextualizing quantitative data. He also investigates the challenges technologies such as machine learning pose for user experience designers.
