About Sorghum and Maize Segmentation Using Hyperspectral Imagery

In agronomic genetics research there is a significant bottle-neck slowing progress, with advances in genome sequencing technologies far outpacing advances in phenotype characterization, new methods using computer vision are being developed to close the gap. One of the major first steps towards extracting valuable measurements from images of plants is the segmentation of plant organs. Segmentation is the grouping of pixels in an image corresponding to specific regions, such as separating the land and sky in an image of a horizon. Our study aims to classify each pixel in hyperspectral images of Sorghum and Maize as belonging to either the stalk, panicle/tassel, leaf, or background.
