Yes there are! Some features that may look similar at first glance are: fallen trees, debris, man-made bridges, or man-made rock dams. View our detailed field guide to learn how to spot the differences.
We don't have an “I don’t know” because we really want your best guess! Sometimes the image may be blurred or obstructed by something, but please make a best guess. Several people look at each photo, and collectively those guesses can help us determine if there is a dam or not. If there is a low agreement on the photo, an expert can review the site using other digital imagery tools.
No, but don't worry! Many people see the same photo, so your answer will be combined with the answers of other volunteers. After showing the image to many people, "incorrect" answers are outweighed by many correct answers.
Yes, please use the Zooniverse "Talk" feature!
We use geographic information systems (GIS) stream data to refine which images are reviewed by citizen scientists. However, the stream data is not always accurate. Additionally, some streams are intermittent which means you may not be able to see it all year, or it’s very small and not able to be seen in the satellite imagery. Sometimes streams are in the very edges of the images, so look closely for these when you find an image without a stream visible.
