About Monitore Tupinambás
Os ambientes marinhos e costeiros são os que possuem o menor número de unidades de conservação no Brasil, sendo necessária maior atenção a essas áreas.
O projeto “Monitore Tupinambás” surgiu com o intuito de testar uma ferramenta de uso simples, rápido e de baixo custo para o monitoramento de longo prazo dos organismos marinhos de nossas UCs Marinhas, integrando servidores, pesquisadores e cientistas cidadãos, a fim de auxiliar na gestão destas áreas. Se soubermos quais são os organismos e como eles variam ao longo do tempo, podemos planejar melhor a conservação dos mesmos nas áreas marinhas protegidas.
Atualmente, este projeto encontra-se em período de testes, e está dividido em duas etapas: (1) O registro fotográfico dos organismos de costões rochosos e (2) a análise das fotografias. A etapa 1 foi realizada na Ilha das Palmas (Ubatuba – SP), uma das ilhas pertencentes à Estação Ecológica Tupinambás (ESEC Tupinambás), com o auxílio de seus servidores. Agora, para a segunda etapa, de análise das fotos, sua ajuda é fundamental!

Marine and coastal environments are the ones with the fewest conservation units (a type of Marine Protected Area (MPA)) in Brazil, and the need for greater attention to these areas is urgent.
The "Monitore Tupinambás" project emerged with the purpose to test a simple, quick and low-cost tool for the long-term monitoring of the organisms of MPAs, integrating employees, researchers and citizen scientists, in order to assist in the management of these areas. If we know which are the organisms and how they vary through time, we can better plan their conservation in the MPAs.
This project is currently being tested and is divided into two stages: (1) The photographic record of the orgnanisms of the rocky shores and (2) the analysis of the photographs. Stage 1 was held on Ilha das Palmas (Ubatuba, São Paulo state, southeastern Brazil), one of the islands belonging to the Tupinambás Ecological Station (ESEC Tupinambás), with the assistance of its employees. Now, for the second step of analyzing the photos, your help is crucial!
