Active Asteroids

September 5, 2026 update: Thanks, everyone, for all your hard work and your patience as we spool up new and exciting data! LOTS of cool things are happening, and we want to highlight two things: 1. Rubin Comet Catchers finally has finally been allowed to release some new images, and there’s a fun Space Sausages workflow looking for near-Earth objects (NEOs)! 2. We have NEW for Active Asteroids! And, by popular demand, we are trying out a new flipbook workflow here, which should make it much more obvious when a tail is actually a galaxy, but also way more fun because we’re looking at animations! 3. We have a new sister project, HyperActive Asteroids (with data from Hawaii!), coming online very soon. When we know more, we’ll update the project banner!
